Most people never think about ductwork until something is wrong - hot rooms, cold spots, or a system that runs constantly trying to keep up. A lot of that comes down to how the ducts were planned and installed from the start. Get it right early, and the home stays comfortable for years without fighting the system.
Here we're installing underground ductwork as part of a new construction addition. The idea is simple - run the ducts below the slab so air is distributed evenly across the space without any overhead drops or bulkheads cutting into the ceiling. It keeps the interior clean and open, and it means the HVAC system isn't working overtime trying to push air through a compromised layout.
Underground duct systems like this require serious planning before a single piece of concrete gets poured. The routing has to be mapped out carefully so every run ends up exactly where it needs to be. Once it's buried, there's no going back and moving things around. That's why we take our time at this stage - clean layout now means no headaches later.
This is the kind of work that doesn't get much attention because once the slab goes down, nobody sees it again. But it's one of the most important steps in a new construction HVAC install. A well-planned underground duct system delivers consistent airflow, supports better efficiency, and keeps the living space looking exactly the way it was designed.
New construction HVAC is a different animal than a standard replacement job. Everything has to be coordinated with the build schedule, and the decisions made early in the process set the tone for how the whole system performs. We enjoy being involved at this stage because it gives us the best shot at getting everything right from the ground up.
